what to expect
Taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting, but you don’t have to have it all worked out. The initial session is a shorter, informal meeting where we can get to know each other a little and explore what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions and get a feel for how I work.
This first meeting is just as much about us deciding whether I’m the right fit for you as it is about understanding what’s brought you to counselling. There’s no commitment beyond this session, it’s simply an opportunity for us to see if it feels like a good match.
If we choose to continue, sessions are usually 50 minutes long and we can agree a frequency that works best.
My approach is grounded in person-centred counselling, which means I’ll meet you with empathy, honesty, and without judgment. While I tailor my work to suit your individual needs using an integrative approach, the heart of how I work is about creating a safe, supportive space where you can explore what’s going on for you.
Some people come to counselling with a clear goal in mind; others aren’t sure where to start, they just know something doesn’t feel right. Wherever you are, that’s okay. We’ll work through it together.
